Pay or Leave?

Last night at Target, the cashier didn't notice a bunch of stuff my wife had put in a storage bin she was buying. I didn't notice until I got to the car. It was worth about 40 bucks. Do you go back and pay for the items or just leave?

I went back and paid for the items. There really isn't any other option in my mind? (but just wondering whether others felt the same way)

On thursday night my buddies gf bought an HD Plasma at walmart and a $150 DVD player.

They forgot to ring up the DVD player.

Oh well....

I think it depends on the amount, for $40 worth of items I would probably go back and pay. If it had been $5 I'm not bothering, I figure there have been plenty of times I've gotten home from the grocery store without all my stuff. It all evens out.

i don't pay and I leave. That's their problems anyway and they make a lot of money out of me anyway.

The right thing to do is to go back and pay for it, but what if you didn't notice it till you got home?

Or what about if the cashier had been rude and given you a bunch of attitude? Would you still go back?

For this kind of thing, I operate under the "would I bitch and complain if they'd charged me those items TWICE" rule. I'd have gone in and paid. If I got home, I'd probably call them or something, because $40 is enough that I'd be pissed if they'd overcharged me $40.

If it was $20 or so, I'd go back in if I was in the parking lot but forget about it once I got home, because if they'd overcharged me $20 then I'd just have said screw it.

$5 and I'm not bothering.

And that concludes my sliding scale of morality.
