It would be stupid raising crappy hands here if your opposition is really aggresssive and plays back at you because it would shut you out of the hand.

But let's say opp. is weak (often the case where I play) and won't 3-bet without something like AAxx.

- Is it then correct to almost _Always_ open with a raise on the button if you are going to play (otherwise fold of course), even with several limps before? The idea would be that we are essentially just raising the stakes but with the benefit of "finding" opponents playing aces and sometimes getting a free card on the flop after people check to the original raiser i.e. you??

You aren't opening if there are limpers in front of you.

Are you PSB when you do this or are you making silly little min-raises or 3BB raises?

Seems to me like it would be a leak, unless opp is always limping with trashy hands like A873 low single suit or the nut suit.

Guess if you know you are capable of outplaying him and you don't need to worry about anyone else, I can't see why it wouldn't be profitable - but only at a 6 handed table. Can't imagine this working 9 handed.

The fewer the number of limpers, the more true this statement becomes.

You don't want to "always" open with a raise. There are a lot of considerations to take into account. One is the number of shortstacks out there that might be looking to limp-raise AAxx and would be getting most of their stack in. Another is the quality and type of your hand. Something like TTxx no suits might be worth a cheap look to try to hit top or middle set, but isn't something you want to commit a lot of chips to preflop.

In general, you definitely want to raise a lot of hands on the button when there are limpers, as raising the stakes when you're in position is very important in PLO, but doing it every single time is overkill and can put you in bad spots.

Naturally if you're surrounded by shortstacks(yuck!) the game changes. Implied odds are smaller and marginal speculative hands become crap. In these situations I do believe you should limp on the button with certain type of hands, e.g. the TTxx mentioned above.

One thing that PL games lack compared to NL games is the river over shove possibility. In NL if you have raised pre-flop and close to potted flop&turn, you often have a situation where you can shove over the pot without it looking strange. This doesn't happen in unraised pots.
