answering questions heads up

I decided to play some Hollywood Park 15/30 yesterday, since the 25 wasn't running. These games feature many regulars, and I often see folks check it down once it gets heads up with other regulars.

Anyway, I flop a set of queens, and get an opportunity to three-bet the turn. It is heads up at this point, and the turn raiser asks me directly, "you got two pair huh?". To this I replied convincingly, "yeah". He calls the turn. I bet the river and he calls with top and bottom pair.

Afterward he started to talk smack about me to the rest of the table about how he couldn't believe I told him I had two pair, bla bla.

I'd prefer not to be an a-hole, but I didn't want to let this one go, and started to retort a bit (-EV obviously).

I'd prefer to avoid this situation, but I don't want to give away any tells or sit there silently as someone glares and asks questions. Any funny/good tips or interpretations on this and similar situations?

I always answer with "I have a royal". It usually gets a chuckle and the questions stop. If they don't just say it's pay per view sir.

u need to get used to these kind of players, they are here to stay, these happens to everyone, last time this happened to me I said, "I'm a poker player, I'm supposed to lie".

I usually just give a half-smirk laugh-shrug, if anything at all.

If anybody complains about what you said, tell them you were bluffing. This is such a minor thing, and for you to get involved in bickering is letting the terrorists know they've already won.

A guy I play with, always responds with "Deuce 6" to they're "what do you have?" question. I like that one.

Poker is a game of lying i.e. bluffing they shouldn't be mad about it.
