Is this turn call not fairly standard for you here? It would seem that 78s, 86s, maybe 66 might all play this the same way. I would usually call and re-evaluate the river, because the it looks like you are showing down and it's less tempting for him to bluff. However, i havent won a million bucks playing poker, so take that FWIW.

I gotta agree with calling down here... you're really only screwed if he has one of the 2 9s. you're ahead of any aggro-played flush draw or 8 for a straight draw, you just counterfeited 67, you have 4 outs if he flopped a straight. If the river is say the T of hearts you might be screwed though... any read on whether your opponent is the type to jam a draw like that on the flop?

I'd call down. If he can be holding a 9 here, then he can pretty much hold an 8. Then there's the flush draws J-10s and the like. A set seems unlikely. The question is whether he plays his draws this aggro?

I think a lot of it depends on your past history with kuta. If it's vs me I call down almost every time here.

Nick - how bad is raise fold to a three-bet here vs. this particular guy?

Re: Another turn play...

haven't played with mr. bull dance a chair on TV in a while but if i remember how he plays correctly (which is not always the case) id say call this one down. there are many ways for himt o have an 8 and he would play it that way for sure some of the time. if you feel the 9 will freeze him up enough then go ahead and raise and check behind. hands like these could demoralize him if indeed he has the 8 and doesn't bet the river...

which brings up the next point, raising here doesn't guarantee a showdown. it does guarantee AT LEAST the same # of bets go in. so you need to have a feel for his river bluffing tendencies and i think that in this hand if you raise him on the turn it will likely freeze him up rather than spur him on like on other baords where his holdings are more of a threat and there are no overcard draws (3betting on turns like these too freequently will get you called by overcards b/c they have now the correct price. i dont know if this applies to our friendly neigborhood tv attention junky but if im about to bet/3bet the turn as a semi or total bluff, i use the board texture as a determinant in the decision making process (he may not use that in his process so who knows whether it *really matters in a spot like this). the pairing o fthe 9s is also good b/c it makes a 9 less likley and from what i remember he may 3bet 66-77 some of the time from the bb.

anyways, the turn play is imo vv close against dan.
