MonsterCable can LMB

Brag: got a LCD tv from PokerStars (weak brag, I know)

Beat: $50 MonsterCable surge protector no match for one measly thunderstorm

Variance: [censored] you MonsterCable and your over-priced shitboxes.

Anybody actually gotten MC to replace their [censored]? Gonna take them a WEEK just to send me the forms to begin a warranty claim, but honestly what are the chances they're even going to honor their guarantee in the first place? Wasn't even a [censored] tornado or hurricane, just a regular Midwest storm -- power went off/on twice or so within 15 secs, then shut off entirely for a couple hours.

Part of me still hopes it's a joke and the thing will start working in a couple hours. It turns ON and I can hear [censored] cable sound (probably millionth replay of a Scrubs episode) but I get no picture obv. [censored] ME & [censored] MC.

Have you considered that it actually saved your TV and that the fuse in it just blew?

Still, silly RMA process that they have to send you forms.

No, still too pissed to consider anything rational. What's it cost to replace a fuse? Tell me more so I can de-tilt.

Most cheaper surge protectors (a $50 one from MC probably qualifies) use a "one time only" type surge protection device. After one surge, it'll be useless, but it works fairly well. This is 100% by design and they will replace it.

If it really tripped this, it likely just saved your TV and any other equipment connected to it from being fried.

I'm glad they're replacing the surge protector, but I'm less confident they'll actually replace my TV. And I don't know TVs, so how does what happened not qualify as "fried"?

SPB... gfy. Nobody could've posted this earlier because it's my story that just happened to me. If you're trying to tell me other 2p2ers have had similiar experiences, then go ahead and link me their stories.

I can't speak for how MonsterCable might have their setups, but the manual should state the kind of fuse and its variance and you would be able to find them cheap at Radio Shack or a place like Home Depot. I wouldn't expect you to spend more then $10 unless they are using some really super expensive fancy fuse/circuit breaker type of component.

However cracking open the strip to find and replace them might void the warranty, so I guess it would be up to you how comfortable you feel doing that.

I'd be surprised if the device actually 'broke'. It may have actually faulted and did its job, but since cable is a powered medium, it still is allowing some signal through because its "strong enough" but not strong enough for a full video signal.
