My limit poker history /experience is largely the latter.
My original introduction to poker - 3 years of winning in small-stakes live nl games at college based on an entirely instinctual understanding of the game and a roughly 40/10 style - makes me grateful for the former.

I'm really really good at sucking out.

Also, I've always been very smart and good at games and puzzles. I also used to play M:TG so I had some experience with the concept of reading hands and thinking how your actions on one turn would affect later ones, both of which are very applicable to poker.
