LOL CMI.

I hope he's just taking some time off from the internet. When I first started lurking coincided with his "reign of terror", about two years ago. It took me a really long time to realize he didn't just ban indiscriminately, rather he had a keen eye for what and who made the forum better, and what and who did not, and often had a funny way of handing down his punishment from high. However, when I registered and was a noob I have to say, he definitely made me think twice before submitting a post, and I probably wasn't alone.

His bark was so much worse than his bite that his reign of terror seemed to me mostly a comical exaggeration and something to stir up drama and paranoia about. The paranoia looked like a very effective weapon in getting some people to behave themselves, but I always thought anyone reasonably sharp could see through all the fearsome drama.

Re: My friend [censored] seems really to have departed

When someone said count your blessings now
'fore they're long gone
I guess I just didn't know how
I was all wrong
They knew better
Still you said forever
And ever
Who knew

Yeah yeah
I'll keep you locked in my head
Until we meet again
Until we
Until we meet again
And I won't forget you my friend
What happened

If someone said three years from now
You'd be long gone
I'd stand up and punch them out
Cause they're all wrong and
That last kiss
I'll cherish
Until we meet again
And time makes
It harder
I wish I could remember
But I keep
Your memory
You visit me in my sleep
My darling
Who knew

Regarding that last sentence, I don't agree. The vast majority of readers are transient or part-time contributors; they don't have time nor interest to decipher a moderator's motives so they are likely to take him at face value.

I was bewildered and frightened by him for a long time and quite honestly thought I would get * just for being a noob. That fear probably did scare me into being a better poster and is maybe something I should channel today to keep my post count under control...

I always feared him. When I first met him I had not started any of my own threads. He was like "well you haven't started any threads so that's a good thing. Now work on not sucking so much." He always made me nervous on the board. He was unpredictable and did not hesitate before swinging the sword.

Re: My friend [censored] seems really to have departed

He never said he was coming after good posters, only bad ones. For the most part by far, the rest was just the sort of puffery that would remind people not to suck too much. I don't think many people who weren't purposely trying to suck had anything to be afraid of.

He hesitated plenty, too. There were still sucky posts during his reign, and by newbies too, that went unpunished. For all his chest thumping, he banned a small number of people, and some of them had it coming for a long time. His image did 99% of his work for him, and did it pretty well. I was onto his act from the start.

Yeah when he is in a good mood he is benevolent. But when he is in a bad mood he's a little unpredictable and he doesn't hesitate for a moment to swing the sword. One time he told me he would ban me because he thought i needed time away from the forum. I stayed away from him for like the next 4 days.
