Advice re: upcoming WSOP Circuit Event in Indiana

I will be spending the week of April 1st thru 8th at Caesar's in Indiana (near Louisville), to participate in the WSOP Circuit Event.

http://www.harrahs.com/EventsDetail.do?l...Circuit%20Event

I plan on playing satellites and cash tourneys with an eye towards the $5000 NLHE Main Event.

They will be having daily $300+40 and $175+25 tourneys as well as satellites and mega-satellites leading up to the Main Event. I'm hoping to have a bankroll of $6000 to $10,000 to devote to this event.

I don't have a lot of live MTT tournament experience and would appreciate some tips from those of you who do.

Poker tips are welcome but would also like some "If I knew then, what I know now" type of tips, and logistics types of tips.

The vast majority of my experience is on-line. Any tips for me to remember as I transition to this live event?

I'll be staying at the casino hotel. Are the breaks long enuf to run to my room?

How early do I need to arrive at the start of a tourney?

Eat before, during or after the tourney?

Single table satellites, soft or tuff?

Etc, etc, etc.

Thanks in advance.

no breaks are not long enough to go to your room

Re: Advice re: upcoming WSOP Circuit Event in Indiana

- everyone is terrible.
- the single table sats have a fast structure and are very profitable (2nd hand info, i have not played any myself)
- the dealers are good here, but the floor is pretty much horrible.
- during tourney time the waiting lists for the cash games can be ridiculously long (often thanks to the point above), but that won't matter much if you are staying there.

if you have any other questions i can answer them.

Re: Advice re: upcoming WSOP Circuit Event in Indiana

1. "If I knew then, what I know now" type of tips, and logistics types of tips.
a)Register early as u can to get the events u like. MTT sats can vary widely from 40 to 800 runners.
b)U need a Harrahs player card to register WSOP-C events. Get one first thing u do if u don't already have.
c) Be aware that some strong/experienced live players, who could otherwise afford direct ME buy-ins, like to fish around in the MTT sats, e.g., guys like Gary Kainer (WPO ME FT), and Mark Smith, ME ring winner WSOP-C Tunica.
d) Ur online experience should suit u well in these MTT sat structures (short & fast).

"I'll be staying at the casino hotel. Are the breaks long enuf to run to my room?"
a) MTT's/STT's..no time, breaks are not long enuf...hotel is at least a 10 minute round trip fast hustle from the 1st floor poker room, or a little less if u r lucky & catch the golf cart shuttle from the 3rd floor casino atrium/food court area..food/drink/pissers are right in the poker room

"How early do I need to arrive at the start of a tourney?"
a) suggest finding ur seat 10 min b4 scheduled start...if they overflow to another floor, u will need time to find ur table

"Eat before, during or after the tourney?"
a) MTT's/STT's - recommend b4 or after, whatever ur body needs/likes - or, wolf down a pony pecker during a break, I guess

"Single table satellites, soft or tuff?"
a. generally EZ assuming u r experienced online STT player, occassional strong players will slum around here too

Pat,

Thanks for posting that link. I'm planning on playing there as well.

Any idea why the schedule has not been posted on Cardplayer or WorldSeriesofPoker.com? I've been holding off on making my plans for Indiana until I could see the event schedule.

It just seems weird to me that less than a month from the events beginning, no schedule has been put on Cardplayer or the official WSOP site.

Thanks again and good luck.

The schedule is a joke. mostly 300s and 500s

it can be found at caesarsindiana.com

not compared to the last 2 that have been at Indiana. October had a 1k, 1.5k, 2k events leading up to the 5k main event and they drew a good amount of players, 150 or so. Plus it had a 1k event on the weekend prior to that. So basically that whole last weekend vanished from this time's schedule. They did add a 1k horse though, which I think won't get many players at all.

And I talked to the poker room manager about this new schedule and his reasoning was that those bigger events did not get enough players last year, well this horse tourney isnt going to do good at all, so I don't see the point.

I just got done playing the WSOP Circuit event at AC.

The 10 minute breaks were long enough for me to get to my room and piss vs. standing in line to use the over-flowing bathrooms. I did this for 3 events and my room was on the 4th floor.

It worked out great & I always got back in time.

register early b4 it fills, everyone is real bad live practically, u will get bored if u are used to playing online, i have trouble sitting thru such slow events

I've never been to AC, but I'm guessing that the poker room and your hotel room were in the same building. At Caesars Indiana, the poker room is in a boat floating on the Ohio river. The hotel is not.

That changes everything.

Yes, the hotel & casino are in the same building(s) in Atlantic City.

Thanks for the insight on the separate boat & hotel. I did not know that about Indiana Caesars.

Thank the Indiana legislature for protecting us all from the evils of gambling on land.

As far as the overall schedule goes, I don't see the point in the $300 events at all when there are low $ "daily cash" tournaments.

Also the only non-NLHE choices seem to be a $500 rebuy PLO and the $1K HORSE. I'd love to play the HORSE tournament, but since I've never played ORS or E live, $1K seems a bit high. Where are they going to find players for that?

good question, i even asked the poker room manager about the new schedule adn he talked about how they only got 150 players or so for the 1k-1.5ks and 100 for the 2k. But this horse will be lucky to get 50, so i dont get the point

Thanks for all the tips so far.

Took a trip to St. Louis last week for a little refresher course in live tournament play.

Played 5 tournaments for a total of $415 in buy-ins. Made two final tables but, unfortunately, only one cash for $628 (9th place for zero cash in a 50-man event that only paid 5 places).

Looking forward to Caesar's.

I was also wondering if the casino allows and/or participates in chop deals at the table.

If I'm heads up with a $5000 seat to the ME on the line and agree to split with the other guy, will the casino handle this or will we have to trust each other to not pull a "fast one".

if neither one of you have a seat yet, someone has to take the seat. So if you want to do this, you just need to carry plenty of cash, you give the guy $2500 or whatever and you take the seat. Pretty simple

Re: Advice re: upcoming WSOP Circuit Event in Indiana

I see several "name" pros took part in the first Circuit event in Indiana when the ME buy-in was $10,000.

Most of the Circuit Main Events are now $5,000 buy-in. Has this caused fewer pros to make the trips to these Circuit events?

at the last 5k in october in indiana. Chad Brown, Alex Jacob, Vanessa Rousso, Joe Sebok, Men Nygeun(sp), neverwin, micon, get crunk, chantel, lilholdem(won it), Chad Moore, David Williams, Doug Carli, Nenad Medic, Eugene Todd, Thomas Fuller, Joel casper, James English, Brian Wilson, apestyles

I dont know what to expect of the turn out. Last year the 5k had a 1k, 1.5k, 2k leading up to it, so I figured that brought in quite a few of the players for a few days. This year its just the 1k horse leading up to the 5k

yeah she played. She was at my table for about 3 levels.

I also forgot Paul Wasicka, he was actually in for a few prelim events as well and played the 5/10 nl uncapped game. He was on my left to start the $1500 event and went from 3k to 8k without a showdown in the first hour, it was pretty sick. I actually fell asleep at the table twice in the first hour but recovered nicely when I woke up for a 2nd place finish. ha

Re: Advice re: upcoming WSOP Circuit Event in Indiana

i just called for structures

$340-1500 chips/40 min levels
$550-2000 chips/50 min levels
$1060-2500 chips/60 min levels
$5150-10000 chips/75 min levels

not very good since the 1k during the midwestern regional gave us 3500 chips and the tourney only lasted 13 hours with 97 players. They cut out the 800/1600 level during the midwestern, but I forgot to ask about that for this series. When I get down there, I'll probably try my best to complain and get the 1k event more chips.
