Bring the tailor something to copy, pictures at least. In Bangkok there are several excellent (usually Indian) tailors that can make brilliant knockoffs in your choice of color/material. They're less skilled at designing Western clothes out of whole cloth.

Also, custom silk shirts are sick cheap in Thailand.

Most young guys look ridic in suits because they are cheap suits or because they wear trainers with them. Something well fitted and suited to your body type will always look good.

In the heat go for linen as the material - guids' suggestion of white is probably going to work better there than it ever could in N. America, so be glad of where you are and bring Miami Vice back:
