Problem going to less monitors

I've been using multiple monitors for quite some time on both my laptop and my desktop. When I use my laptop on the road I don't have it hooked up to the second monitor but some programs still open as if the second monitor is there. On my desktop I've moved from 3 to 2 monitors. The program is listed on the taskbar but when clicked on it is obviously opening on the second screen that's not there.

This happens with PaHud on my laptop and is also occurring on my desktop when I right click the background and go to properties.

How do I go about getting the programs to open in the available screen(s)?

What if you right-click the task bar and tell it to cascade or tile all windows...?

I don't know how to keep them from going there, but once they're there, use alt-space to bring-down their context menu, and select "move". Then your arrow keys can bring the app back within visible space.

Oh, and if it's to keep them from going there...it seems like once you have them where you want them, go to the file menu and exit the program. Then, hopefully the next time you open that prog, it will go to the last place you closed it from.
