WSOP Heads up Format Issues

I spoke with Jack Effel today. He said they wre still unsure as to how to handle the number of entries if it exceeds 256 and is below 512; but will probably offer byes to as many as a few hundred players to get to the round of 256. The number of entrants was almost at 256 this afternoon and the expected number is surely going to be higher than 256 but will probably not reach the magic number of 512. Assuming the number of entries falls between 300 and 500; what is the proper way to accomodate all that enter? Also i verified that all the heads up matches are single elimination except for the final 2 opponents who will play best two out of three.

They should do it like the Mirage where they take the excess above 256 and put them in play-in matches where they pay half the buy-in...

Let's say the # of entrants is exactly 257. In that situation 255 players should get a bye.

The two remaning players should play and extra round and pay half the entry fee. That way, they'll essentially be playing a satellite for a 256 player tournament.

With 300 players, 212 players get byes. 88 will compete in "satellites" with a half entry fee.

they will not lower the entry fee for anyone; i already suggested that and they said that is definitely not an option.

i heard today that they'll be paying 128 if the max of 512 does enter, this doesnt make sense to me either

doing that lowers the prize pool and generates less revenue

Prizepool with 256 players = 1.28 mil
Prizepool with 370 players = 1.28 mil
Prizepool with 512 players = 2.56 mil

Either people in the play in game have to pay 1/2 the buy in or people who get a buy have to pay twice the buy in.

Since preregistration has already occurred I am going to say that the prize pool is exactly 1.28mil for this event.

The only other possible solution is for Harras to comp enough people buy ins so that they can get the number up to 512.
