I think I'd lead the pot for about $12 after showing preflop aggression.
Tough decision would be if he reraised AI

Check on flop is fine I think. I also would probably call one street...that street here being the turn. If he bets river fold. If he checks river check behind.

The only better hand that you might fold is QQ and I don't think it's worth it to try. And I really doubt you're getting any value from a worse hand by betting.
