Which processor to get

Hey guys...last question here.

I'm deciding between two processors for my new dell desktop:

1)Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB)

2) Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6850 (4MB L2 Cache,3.0GHz,1333 FSB)

I'll be using it mainly for poker, internet, playing music, and watching videos. I have no idea what an L2 cache or FSB is so I figure I'll just ask you experts what is better. Thanks!

Either is more than sufficient, so save a few bucks and get the dual core.

I'm very much out of the loop of the hardware scene, but I would assume #2 is much cheaper, in which case I would go for that. There is no way anybody has a need for quad cores in a desktop.

it's difficult to imagine someone using it mainly for poker to be needing four processors at one time.

if you were 16+ tabling, using old PT, PAHUD, across a couple of sites, and wanted to also watch videos and rip MP3s while browsing google earth, the Quad-Core might be handy.

You will see better performance from the 6850 for now.

fwiw, the quad core is actually $46 dollars cheaper. Since the prices are so close I'm only interested in what is faster/more reliable.

For your stated usage the dual core will be faster.

Re: Which processor to get

they should both be pretty much equally reliable. The quad is actually two dual core chips in the same package so I guess you could argue that a quad core has some small disadvantage in the relability front, but it isn't doubling your failure rate and failure rate is really low anyway.

The biggest difference in speed will be the FSB. As I said I am out of the loop, but if they use the same type of memory the #2 processor will almost certainly be noticeably faster.
