old 100\'s

For the last year or two whenever I get an old 100 dollar bill I keep it separate and have been just putting them in my safety deposit box. I have something like 40 of them and my girlfriend thinks I'm a moron and should either invest them or do something with them as 'just holding them doesn't do anything.'

I agree with her to an extent and think maybe I should do something...but they're just so sexy looking which makes me want to just hold onto them.

BBV, what should I do?

Do the old $2 bills have more than $2 in value now? Maybe this means nothing, but I guess it could end up being like a Buffalo nickel or whatever.

Instead of having a feeling or thinking they're sexy, research whether old hundreds are appreciating at a faster rate than CDs or mutual funds (if you can tolerate some risk). My bet is that traditional investment vehicles will make your $4,000 appreciate much faster than old hundreds as collector items.

My girl does this too. She keeps the old 50 and 100's. We have a safe deposit box I drop a load off every 6 months or so.

I love the old hundreds. I haven't seen one since about a year ago when I played at the venetian and for some reason they paid me with them when I cashed out.

the way our money is going, id turn them into something that will hold their value better. A safety deposit box full of gold coins would be just as sexy as one full of old hundos.

Re: old 100\'s

There was a thread on a diff forum where a guy paid for something with an old $100 and because it was old it didn't have the right paper or ink or some such, so the counterfeit pen they used showed it was counterfeit. The employee ripped up the bill in front of the guy and called a security guard. It was all sorted out rather quickly, plus the manager of the place gave him a free $100 gift certificate.

So, go spend your old $100s and see if you can get some free stuff out of it when employees call your money fake

inflation renders 99.9% of bills/coins inefficient as a long term store of value.

at one point i mustve had like 25 old 100s, so you mustve just started this becuase youve been at this poker stuff much longer than me... i was forced to gamble mine, if i was you id keep them, it actually forces you to save more (though it is highly unlikely they will ever be worth anything)

I would just buy some euros or yuan or something, keeping american money is like lighting $ on fire. In fact I would recommend spending any money you make from poker as soon as possible because it will be worth 5% less tomorrow.

Which also leads me to believe you are the short stacker on cakepoker called tnx4dahooker since that's the best short stack screen name ever. sits down w/ $200 doubles to $400, leaves then comes back 30 minutes later w/ $200 again.

is there not a time scale to hand in old notes.like the old notes get withdrawn from circulation and cease to be legal tender? jow does it work in the usa? in britain when they change notes significantly you have to hand them back to the bank or your stuck with worthless bits of paper.

Not in the USA. Your notes are legal tender just about forever.

i see i can see how its the number one counterfieted currncy in the world, pretty weird system if you ask me.maybe its cheaper to spend money catching fruadsters rather than burning old notes and printing new ones, thats a lot of $$$$ to print thinking about it now.
