San Diego
Hi i'm from Oxford, England and i am looking to become a beach lifeguard in San Diego.
What do I need to look out for? Is poker legal, if so where can I play, if not where can I play? Do people recommend this city or should I stay the hell out? |
Re: San Diego
San Diego is a festering hell hole that is currently being ravaged by forest fires.
Poker is illegal and you will have to climb underneath the border fence to Mexico to play in the highly dangerous gamers that take place in the border brush using pebbles as chips and lit only by flashlight. also, lifeguards are scarce as nobody heads to beach much, what with the sand wasps and all. |
Re: San Diego
San Diego is amazing.
The weather is pretty much perfect all year. Poker is legal. There are even some 18+ casinos in the San Diego area. I've actually never seen a lifeguard on any beach in San Diego. |

Re: San Diego
OP, you're better off going up the coast a little bit to a more popular beach like Huntington Beach if you're into Surfing, or Venice Beach. You probably won't find much in San Diego, but if you insist on it, I suggest Blacks Beach. You can watch hang gliders and paragliders, and the scenery is pretty awesome with the steep cliffs near Torrey Pines.

Re: San Diego
San Diego has some of the most temperate weather in the world. It hardly ever rains and there's a lot to do. Downtown area and Seaport Village are great. Horton Plaza (also downtown) is a cool mall, very eclectic. Jim Croce's restaurant is a few blocks from Horton. Make sure you visit La Jolla for the best views of the ocean and the seals. Coronado is great too. Its across a scenic bay and bridge directly across from the downtown area. There are ferries you can take around. The Hotel Del Coronado is excellent to visit even if its just the lobby. A rather pricey hotel but plenty of atmosphere and its a historic landmark.
Since you're lifeguarding you may need a wet suit since California ocean water tends to run cold even in the summer. If I was going to a casino I'd probably prefer Sycuan Indian Casino (east of Rancho San Diego). It's more out of the way but not as crowded as Barona or Viejas. I'm not sure about the poker action at any of them though all 3 probably have it. You probably want to surf city of San Diego sites to see how to avoid any fire areas from the recent fires. San Diego also has terrible traffic during rush hour. It's the 5th most populous U.S. city. |
Re: San Diego
OP,
You should probably head somewhere colder and just check out an average american bar. http://thecia.com.au/reviews/l/image...actually-7.jpg does a love actually reference make me gay? |
