Bet the turn, about $7. The board is very drawy and we don't want to give free cards. We'll get calls from smaller pairs, A9, etc... If you're beat he'll let you know with a raise. If he calls and no draws complete on the river I think c/c for value is good.

As I had no info on the guy and he called my cb I thought I better keep the pot manageable, so checked with the intention to bet the river if he checked.

I think I might normally lead, but I didn't like the flop. Was this thinking wrong?

I reserve pot control for drier boards where I'm not risking value by giving free cards. On dry boards the hands that are most likely to beat you are sets. Here there are lots of straight draws possible, (one just completed on the turn) and the turn brings club draws as well.

Here I think bet/fold does the best job of getting value from weaker pairs, protecting our hand from draws, etc...

So you think I bet 7 and fold to a re-raise is a better line?

As you saw I checked, Villain raised to 5.50, and I called.

I checked river, he led out for 10 into a ~20 pot, I called and he showed 78o
