Tunica WPT/ WSOPC Question

So, I'm planning on playing in the World Poker Open in January. I just realized there are no airports near Tunica, MS. Is the closest one REALLY Memphis, Tenessee? I know some of you have played in it before or are playing in it this year. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds about right. And Tunica is about 40 miles from Memphis if my memory serves me correctly.

The casinos are really in Robinsonville and are only about 20-25 miles away. I wasn't trying to get nit picky but it really isn't that bad.

I know there are shuttles but I don't know their names since I just driver there (I'm from Memphis). Google it and I'm sure you'll get lucky.

Re: Tunica WPT/ WSOPC Question

There is an airport in Tunica:

http://www.tunicaairport.com

They don't have any regular major carrier air service yet though, but they do have quite a few private jets that come in and out. I thought I heard on the news that Delta was going to begin offering some sort of flight from Atlanta to Tunica, not sure where the details on that stand though.

The bottom line is you basicly have to fly to Memphis and then get to Tunica, a rental car is your best bet.

You know years ago when they first proposed buiding the Casinos here the companies wanted to build them in Memphis, but the Church going holy rollers threw a stink and said it would increase crime in Memphis - one of the most dangerous cities in America.

So what you need to do is fly to Memphis, go straight to Tunica and when you are ready to go home, go back to the Memphis airport. I would only use Memphis for that, it is just too dangerous to go shopping or sightseeing in Memphis, you should spend as little time in Memphis as possible.

Re: Tunica WPT/ WSOPC Question

as mentioned in another thread:
shuttle service is inconsistent in and around Tunica and during some hours is not even running at all.
shuttle service from the MEM airport to Tunica is expensive.

In Tunica there pretty much aren't any cabs.

You are MUCH better off renting a car than trying to rely on shuttles.
Some people who have never been to Tunica before think it's going to be easy to get around. Then they find out they need to hitch or bum a ride or something just to get back to their hotel.

Rent a car. They don't cost that much and you'll possibly end up saving money compared with the shuttle cost from the airport.

You realize Tunica & Memphis are in 2 different states right? MS passed gaming while TN did not.

Were you around when the Casinos were first proposed? I guess you weren't or you were not paying attention. Harrahs, and others at first proposed buiding casinos in Memphis, TN but the opposition in Memphis, TN was too strong so Mississippi came to the plate and told them to come build them in Tunica, MS. If you need any other history lessons let me know, cause I know it all, while you are ignorant of the facts.

Yes numbnutz, I was around. I help build the damn things.

Opposition in Memphis, huh? Try opposition in the state of Tennessee. The state did not pass gaming legislation, not Memphis. You think King Willie would turn away a cash cow like a casino?? Not hardly

Mississippi already had the gaming legislation in place well before the first casino was ever opened in Tunica. All Tunica county did was vote on & approve the gaming referendum.
