why FL 50$

Hello,

why is FL .25/.50 also called FL $50? Because the Pot can reach max. $50?

Because 100x the big blind is the standard buy-in, so you can either say the limit, or the 100x buy-in and people will know what game your are referring to.

I might add that 100BB is also the MAX buy in, unless you're playing on a deep table (if you're playing online, at least).

Thank You!

Actually, i'm playing this limit online for some weeks now. And i always asked myself where this term comes from.

Is FL a typo, or do I need to spend more time in the beginner forum?

FL = Fixed limit

Also there is normally not a max buy in in limit games.

That's why I asked. .25/.50 limit is never referred to as $50.

It isn't, or it shouldn't be.

NL with a $0.50 big blind is often called NL $50, since the maximum buy-in in most online games is $50.

FL is fixed limit; I'm not sure what the benefit is of using that instead of just saying limit, as it apparently looks too much like NL. No one should call a limit game with a $0.50 big blind FL $50. The usual name would be $0.50-$1. When you see two numbers describe a limit, they are normally the small bet (the bet size preflop and on the flop) and the big bet (the bet size on the turn and river). The numbers are not the blinds.

There isn't much significance to the amount you have at the table when you play limit. It is very important in NL. Players discussing buy-ins in limit usually have mistakenly used something from NL out of context.

Ah, indeed. I assumed OP had typo'd "NL".

You are right. I ment Fixed Limit. I saw that from time to time in some other forums ("FL $50").

But i see, it's wrong. Thats why i was asking.

Thank You!
