Hypothetical bet on the golf course involving throwing a football...

Doesn't it seem like you could huck a football like 80 yards on the golf course?

I mean, picture standing 80 yards from the flag...it just seems so close.

And 60 yards seems like a complete shoe-in.

My friend and I made this bet a couple years ago that I could throw it the 60 yards, but we have yet to bring a football to the course to settle this.

I'm 5 10', 175 and I'm a pretty good athlete but I wasn't some stud quarterback or anything.

I don't really know the exact point of this post, but when we finally get this settled maybe I'll bump this or something with results.

There are some NFL QB's that can't throw it 60 yards in the air. I'm not sure why you think you can, but I'd certainly bet against it.

Your friend will win this one. I'd say 45 yards would make this a decent bet if you only get one throw.

Yeah, this is pretty much exactly my friends line of thinking.

I don't know why I think I can either besides the fact that the flag looks so close from 60 yards and I can't imagine coming up short of it.

Guess I'll learn the hard way maybe.

Get your friend to stand next to the pin.

What? You don't think either Detmer brother could throw a football 60 yards?

This is a minor departure, but does anyone ever translate feet to yards when they see them on street or highway signs and think that the number is off? E.g. there is a freeway sign here in town that says "Cactus Rd., 1500 feet". It's kinda weird because on the whole length of the freeway there isn't another sign that isn't in miles. It's like they felt like being super accurate because if they put "1/4 mile" or whatever and it was just a little bit off people would get in accidents or something.

Anyway...1500 feet = 500 yards. I find myself looking at that sign every time and thinking there's no damned way that's a par-5 in distance. More like a reachable par-4. Either signs like this are off a lot of the time, or I'm not scaling distances properly when I'm looking at them.

Weird rant, sorry. Carry on.

You'd easily lose this bet if you where going to use an NFL sized football. I bet you could do it with a medium sized ball with good grip, if you had a decent arm on you.
