You either pay a rake like you do online, or a time charge. (Like $6 every half hour)
From what I've seen, rake is much more common.

I think the OP is talking about an admission fee. Most casinos in America don't have this, but some in Europe do and a few crappy rooms in the Midwest might.

Its been 3 years since I was at Turningstone, but they charged a $2 daily membership fee to play (they claimed it was a legakl requirement, but I can't see how that could be)

The riverboat casinos in Indiana used to charge something like $3 or $5 or something just to get on the boat.
That requirement is gone though as are the specified boarding times (you are allowed to enter whenever you want without having to wait for the 'boarding time').

No idea how many other places charge admission just to enter the place.
But obviously almost all casino poker does not come with an admission fee.
They make enough off the rake they take out of each pot (or the half-hour time-charge for sitting at the table as it works at some places).

I'm not sure about Indiana regulations, but the state of Missouri charges the casinos a small tax ($2-$3) per visitor. Missouri boats initially tried to pass that "admission fee" on to their customers, but competition made the attempt fail. Now the boats just absorb that tax as part of the cost of business.

But getting back to the OP... I've never seen a specific fee to enter a poker room. Just the blinds and the rake once you join a game.

For a short while, just after they reopened their poker room, Grand Victoria in Rising sun, IN charged a $5 seating fee. You ponied up a red chip before you could sit. It went the way of the Dodo quickly.

They were still doing this five months ago on my first (and likely only) trip to Turning Stone.

I've seen a $1 entry fee to get into derby lane in FL. ($2 max "charity" poker room attached to dog track)
