low stakes limit 2-7TD: play from the blinds
 

Hi,

I've just started playing this game and have read the few
introductions to strategy I found on the internet.

I was wondering about play from the blinds before the first
draw in general.

If I start with a good 3 card hand (234,237,etc) I will
always raise/cap if I'm in late position. If OTOH I'm in
the blinds should I be putting so much in only to end up
out of position for the whole hand? If there are a few limpers
I am unlikely to fold anyone out (since it's low stakes and
they have already called one bet) so would it better to just
call and see if I catch a good one or should I still try and
build a big pot?

Typically I have been raising if it is limped round but not
reraising.

If the button has 853 and the BB has 237, I would rather be the button. Your opponents would have to be regularly raising hands like 38KKK before you would think about three betting 234xx and 237xx. If you both have 237xx, the button is waaay ahead.

That being said, if someone limps, you should probably two bet just about anything you would have called a raise with. This assumes that they usually limp bad hands and occasionally limp re-raise their solid one card draws and pat hands.

This is an interesting point. I think its true if BB plays pretty average-bad.. Against a good/aggresive BB i would disagree though.

What makes it different for a solidly aggressive player here? Is it your limited snowing ability or their ability to extract value with 7's?

My guess is that a solidly aggressive player is going to play the river correctly and negate a lot of the advantage of patting rough. I think these hands are going to play pretty close to each other though.

My biggest fear in this situation is how much tougher a good agressive opponent is going to make playing the second draw. 853 leaves you with a lot of tough spots on when you both draw 1 on second draw and he leads. If you don't make an 8 your stuck with an unfreezable 9. Furthermore 853 can almost never make a hand thats good when he legitmatly three bets you for value after the second draw. Good opponents have really tough three bet ranges after second draw and know how to put the pressure on. What are you doing with 98543 after he three bets? I think you almost always have to fold and leave behind a ton of money. Compared with 97532 which allows you to either call the 3 bet and break or go for the four bet with room to operate if he doesn't break.

That is really well reasoned.

I had not thought about it that way, but I can't find anything to disagree with. I guess I'm not used to playing against tough players.

That being said, i obv open 853 100% of time on button no matter who is BB, but if i somehow knew an aggresive/goodish BB had 3 to a wheel its a muck for me.
