Folding in a collection pot

for those of you who are familiar with the collection pot theory (talking players into the idea that the first pot over x dollars pays everyones collection for the hour and/or half hour)...

I need your help on an argument I'm having with a friend.

He feels that if you're playing short in a NL game (with no max) that has a collection pot... you should be open folding hands like KK or QQ under the gun during that collection pot.

His argument was that with an effective $150 rake... if you're playing relatively short ($600-$700, like some people do at commerce)... you're negative EV to play the hand... I obviously disagree... thoughts?

I agree... ironically...

he did make a pretty good mathematical argument for open pushing or folding.

folding KK/QQ preflop is pretty obviously -EV in those spots. Though i'd argue that so is playing shortstacked in a soft live game at the commerce if there are deep fish.

wtf, the time charge is $15 per person?

obviously if they are raking half the [censored] pot then yeah, playing anything at all is bad

Commerce 10/20NL is a draconian $10/half hour collection. The collection pot charge is $90 for a full table. Math wizards may now do their thing.

I'm not sure what 20/40NL or higher pays. I've never sat in those games, but hope to someday when I grow up.

This is why you just object to collection pots, they kill action and slow down the game.
