I know the syntax for countif. I thought there was something a little trickier for it to count all the votes correctly. If it is just a matter of writing in the formula a bunch of times, then I think I can do it. I was trying not to have to reinvent the wheel.

having never before used excel, i was able to properly setup a votecounting spreadsheet in just a few minutes. column A is just [ and C is ], put the countif stuff in B, everyone's name in D, the word "votes" in E and who they vote for in F. then the countif stuff for B looks like =countif(D1,F1:F9) or something like that
