sports where you can 100% outplay your opponent and lose?

The only two that come to mind for me are bowling and tennis. It has always bothered me that tennis players can win more points and still lose a match. Same with bowlers can bowl more strikes and knock more pins down and still lose.

Any other ones?

PS I do not and will never consider poker a sport...

the scoring in tennis and bowling is absurd and totally illogical

similarly, the foul-a-thon at the end of basketball games is ridiculous - you shouldn't be able to stop the clock AND gain points when you're down 10 with a minute left

apology for ignorance, but examples on both?

tennis i can see if a player always wins after being up 40-0 and always loses after a 40-40, thereby scoring more points but i don't see how thats 100% outplaying them.

don't get bowling enough to figure out how knocking more pins -> less points.

Pool. In 9-ball the break is far too powerful. Alternating break alleviates this to some extent.

someone with 6 strikes and 5 9pin spares can easily lose to someone with 4 strikes and 7 9pin spares given the scoring:

x / x / x / x / x /x = 200
/ / / x x x x / / /9 = 224

The over/under on a Donaghy post had to have been like 5.
