Re: computer won\'t start up

if you have a floppy drive create a Windows 98 boot disk.
Run FDISK/MBR which will repair the MBR if theres problems and if there isn't no harm-no foul. Might want to run a thorough scan disk and disk defrag from Safe Mode as well. If theres a chance of a virus run ad-aware and spybot search and destroy from Safe Mode as well. Both of these are free programs.

try turning off everything you can in the startup menu and see if it will turn on.

i get a blue screen saying that windows has been shut down to avoid damage. and then when i re-start, i get a black screen which allows me to choose safe-mode. i tried several things and nothing worked. finally, i unplugged everything and replugged it in and tried again and it started up. so i have no idea but it appears to work now.

also, i noticed, my bottom drive is jammed and won't open. i never use it so i'm not sure if it really matters but is there any way to force it open?

Re: computer won\'t start up

Depending on the age of the bottom drive, and I assume you are speaking of a CD/DVD drive, there is a small hole in the front of it. Stick a straightened out paper clip in this hole to release the locking mechanism.
