put tray down. lay pillow or other soft material on tray. sleep with head down.

Lol. Have you ever been on an airplane before? Based on your post, you are either a balla who flies first class or a midget.

i'm 6'1" 200lbs and can do it without too much problem. i mean, it's not as good as sleeping on a desk at school was, but if i'm in the middle or aisle seat it's better than nothing.

edit: i have never used a neck pillow though.

I just did two recent round trips from baltimore and seattle.

Obviously it's not going to be real comfy, but if I find that I am uncomfortable from leaning back, I can often get comfortable enough with my head down on a blanket or shirt on the tray to get some sleep. FWIW, I'm about 6'0.

Re: Sleeping on flights

tray down and head rest is essential
i do it all the time
it's essentially like sleeping in class, just a little worse...still much better than trying to sit upright

i did it recently and my friends all looked at me like i was crazy...then they tried. never went back. i'm 5-10 so pretty short i guess...but my taller friends still like it also

it's the most underused airplane strat by far.

I can't sleep unless I am lying down unless I am [censored] up. Will keep in mind the drugs idea. Probably Tylenol PM.

I'm surprised by these posts. Every time I've tried to sleep with my head on the tray, my head always jams into the back of the seat and it's super uncomfortable. Maybe I've just taken crappy flights with no room? I'm 5'10, fwiw.

That is about the only way I am able to sleep on aeroplanes. However, my neck and back feel like [censored] when I wake up.

You'll look like an [censored], but this looks comfy:

i have the same issue. i fall a sleep just to the point of unconsciousness, but as soon as my head joggles, i'm awake again. it's a perpetual nightmare. instead of the neck pillow i roll up a tshirt and stick it back there. it only buys me 3 more minutes before i shake-awake again but YMMV.
