question on low hand ......

my friend called me at 2:30 in the morning today to ask me
which low in this particular hand is best, not having recalled very well the rules of O8B I first suggested the A 2 5 6 8 hand was lowest then b/c A 2 x x x beats A 3 x x x and then promptly flip flopped to A 3 4 6 8 being lowest counting down from 8.

I'm sorry to ask such an elementary question here, but could not resource an exact answer via other means short of calling a poker room. Plz flame away and help.

player 1:

A 3 4 Q

player 2:

A 2 5 J

board:

A J K 8 6

player 1: plays A 3 4 6 8 for low

player 2: plays A 2 5 6 8 for low

apparently the argument was pretty heated + lengthy with a huge pot on the line. BTW the low pot was eventually awarded but I will delay in posting who won unless you guys would like to know

Re: question on low hand ......

Player 1 wins the low pot.

8-6-4 is lower than 8-6-5.

Re: question on low hand ......

just count it down from the top, and look at the low hand as a number. lowwest number wins. in ur example player 1 has 86,431 and player 2 has 86,521. easy enuff?
