Writing a Business Plan

What is the best way to learn about writing a business plan? Anyone know the best books or websites to learn from?

Thanks.

Thanks for the responses. I will definitely be using both resources. Anyone know any specific resources for building a business plan for a restaurant?

RestaurantOwner.com has tons of interactive resources on building a restaurant business plan. It's a necessity if you're thinking about opening a restaurant.

Great success stories coming out of the SMU Entrepreneur Seminar. You'd have to be located in Dallas, though. When I took the course, in '05, it was $650. Well worth it, you write a business plan as part of the course and have access to their network of professionals to help you once the course is finished. They have both credit and non-credit options, too, so you don't have to be admitted to the school before taking it. Link

Or you could just use the books they used. One was "The Portable MBA in Entrepreneurship" but, really, the course lectures and professional help were the benefits. Good luck!

As an aside, check out www.score.org. They volunteers there will help you a lot if they can, including BP feedback. They have some free resources on their website. There is a lot of free stuff on www.sba.gov too.

Couple of years back, I read 'Silicon Valley Way' and it provided me enough inputs/checkmarks for my Business plan, you might want to check that out.
