Wynn - the worst game selection in town?

I'm inclined to believe so...maybe just because it's the newest and fanciest of the strip casinos, all the locals came out of the woodwork for it.

First 1/3 NL table ALL EIGHT of the other players were locals...no offense but they were all grimy, looked like trailer trash, smoked cheap cigarettes every 10 minutes, and one even sported a mullet. They talked expertly about every hand after it was over and I finally broke and actually asked if everyone lived around here, and they all nodded.

TABLE CHANGE

To another local studded table, including one freak that the dealer knew by name and had THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS behind in cash, and another local had 10k...i knew there was no cap but good god damn 30k at a 1-3...other players included a grizzled local, a few slick asian kids that knew the game, and a dealer from the Wynn playing his day off. Unbelievably bad game selection! This fish will definitely keep sailing in search of less shark infested waters. my .02

Common knowledge that the Wynn is infested w/ local nits.

it's not uncommon for dealers to know players by name wherever you play

I played for 10 days straight 2-5 and up and didn't encounter a bad game the whole time. Maybe its the time of year or you just got unlucky.

Wynn is doing a $100,000 freeroll now. Of course the locals have all crawled out of the woodwork to play. And yes, I agree it can ruin the games. Wynn hasn't been that bad for me recently but I've been mostly playing during busy times (like Labor Day weekend) when the ratio of locals to tourists isn't so bad.

it\'s the parking

The one thing locals want more than anything else is easy, close parking. Wynn practically put the poker room in the garage. The ones who value parking over most everything else are generally so tight you couldn't get a greased ball bearing up their.... Before I quit playing there (due to the "our **** don't stink phenomenon) I would sometimes leave after only 15 minutes when the game was like you describe.

Actually the day I left was the first day of a freeroll qualifying period and the games were the worst that day. If I move to Vegas I'll have to remember to avoid the first week or so at given room's freeroll period.

It's not the newest cardroom by far. It's been open since APril 2005.

That would be "The Duke" and it's flash cash only. He never puts it into play and is the tightest player on earth.

Little known secret - generally locals aren't the great card players they think they are. Yes they are tight which means you have fewer multi-way pots or deep pots, but they generally suck at reading hands - dont be afraid of locals.

Also remember a short stack is at an advantage vs a big stack like that, and generally these guys cannot play big-stack poker well.
