What is your school \"known for\"?

Either just locally or nationally. I asked arod in his UNT thread becuase I am always curious for some reason what different universities are known for having prestige in.

Illinois State University is apparently nationally known for its education field. Certainly it seems to be respected within the field anyway. This makes sense as Illinois State was a "normal school" when it originated, ie., a college specifically for educating future teachers.

In addition I guess we are pretty well known for nursing students. I don't know too much about this aspect but I'm guessing it is much more of an "in state" prestige.

So indulge me and enlighten others, what is your college "famous for" in terms of prestige in specific academics?

Lots of things. At the undergrad level, the most world-renowned is likely theatre. Graduate level, business or education.

I feel I should add, to make sure that you include what school you're from. Since I have no idea what the first 2 people are referencing.

I think I figured out Dan's college

Re: What is your school \"known for\"?

I think it'd be more interesting to know the non-academic things schools are known for. Otherwise we will just have a list of "Business" or "Liberal Arts" [censored] that can be looked up in 2 seconds on USNews.com.

Sac State was known for having chickens roaming across campus.. but 2-3 years ago the (new) President was worried about West Nile and SARS, so he told anyone that wanted one to just go and take 'em off of the campus. No more chickens. People have blamed the new President of branding and selling the college. Although everyone knew the school as "Sac(ramento) State," all the clothing and official school items were labeled as CSUS. Now, everything is "Sacramento State."

UGA...football, univ is 90% white in a 60% white state, athletic association scandals, having a bomb ass college town, very bad alcohol problems, hate crimes apparently, and a final exam in a sports class that asked "how many halves does a basketball game have?"

the last happened in 2003 I think...kinda sad

Kep em comin dorm. I assume I'm not the only person finding these really interesting. And I think the thread taking a turn to non-academics worked out splendid.
