How deep does villain need to be to go set mining?
 

Does Villain need to have 100bb or more to try and flop a set? What are other factors that come into play when playing small pairs when your facing a 3 bet?

depends on his likelihood of having a hand that will stack off, your likelihood of outplaying him postflop when you miss, % of stack to call...

stacks probably aren't deep enough in hand 1, but i'd certainly call in hand 2.

Yeh i'd second this, but for me it depends on the type of player. A tight guy who you know prob has a high pair or AK, could well stack off if you hit you set, I mean if a nit's got AA and you hold (3-3)3-7-8 even tight guy will get his chips in. Conversely, loose players may not give you action since their wider ranges mean they often miss flop or are too weak to continue

Often I mix it up as well, sometimes just limping with 22-77 so I dont get raised off my PP before the flop

But to answer you directly Im looking for at least 90bb to win

Never open limp at a 6handed table unless you are in LP and the blinds are short.

I generally want 10x there 3bet raise amount so in these cases they would need 80 behind there raise to make ir profitable(I used this guideline in full ring it may be a bit off for 6max) might need to be higher 15x or something but I just use the 10-1 rule

You are shorthanded.
1. 33 might be the best hand in a showdown
2. He - in a broader perspective - could have anything.
3. He won't often let you take his stack if you hit trips.
4. You will get outdrawn.
5. He might fail to make a continuation bet i.e. u can take it down.
6. You might be able to float him or outplay him.
7. As an outside option you can always ponder a pre flop bluff.

Basically there is a huge number of factors and your odds to draw to and try to hit trips is maybe the least important one. As I said in the beginning, it is shorthanded.

The "set or no bet" is basically just interesting full ring against EP raisers or against an absolute NIT UTG/SB/BB. Somehow this "rule" which I think "comes" from Brunson's Super System has stuck in peoples' minds...

setmine against an uber nit for 120bb+, never ever call a 3-bet with the intention to setmine otherwise.

How much heat will I have to take with a low pair?
Can I steal a lot from him?¨
and so on
