Which game has the most variance swings?? top 3
 

Hello all,

I am trying to find out which came has the most?

Omaha or O/8

7 Card Stud or 7CS/8

No limit holdem or Limit Holdem

can any 1 tell which and why is that the case?


p.s I been trying 7 Card Stud and its pretty fun also easier with much bigger pots than holdem or omaha, why isn't popular though?

It's not popular because holdem (specifically NL) is the game on TV. People want to play the TV game.

IMO the split pot games have the least varience of any, for just that reason.

PLO8 has the highest variance... because equity swings are so huge that the nuts on the flop can turn into a huge underdog on the turn...

Limit hold'em has got some pretty huge variance too, compared to long-term winrates of winning players.

so limit holdem has much less variance than PL Omaha Hi?


also is it worth it to study and master 7 card stud or should I just stick with limit holdem?

imho -- it's good to learn/master all games...

although -- long term -- i think the most consistant
money is to be made at NL holdem, but just because
that's where the general public comes to play.

good players tend to gravitate towards the obscure games.

least variance, imho, stud 8.

in order, games i've played:

stud 8 - FL
holdem - NL
O8 - PL
stud - FL
razz - FL
O8 - FL
holdem - FL

I would think HU NLHE has the most variance.

You can't wait around for great hands and are often felting with draws, tp, etc.

You can probably find a mathematically correct answer in the Probability forum.

It's not the answer to your question, but the best way to AVOID variance swings is to become really, really good at your game. ie. make your edge as huge as possible.
