Turbo 180\'s. Like? Dislike? Why?
 

I've started playing these regularly and I'm wondering what everyone else thinks of how beatable they are, how soft they are and all that.

Thoughts?

I've started to play a few 11+1 180 Turbos on Poker Stars and I like them fairly well so far. Like any Turbos they get pretty crazy with all-ins, especially around 30 players remaining.

If you're savvy with preflop play and pot stealing I think it's quite easy to build a stack in these -- of course once you're in the money the stacks trade hands frequently.

The top-heavy payout structure is a double-edged sword for these tournaments. I like it a lot for the regular 180s, but because the Turbos are even more frenzied once you're ITM it's a lot more difficult to negotiate your way into the top three. On the other hand, the payouts for those three spots are pretty huge.

I've got to do some more experimentation for myself, but so far I like the low buy-in 180 turbos.

I've started playing them regularly short time ago, and my ROI is 190% with 112 tournaments played. Still the sample is too small to predict a correct roi, and variance plays a huge role.
Since it is a turbo, with only 180 people, when it comes to 400/800 blinds, most people are effectively shortstacked and prone to make bad decisions. Folding equity falls sharply and it becomes hard to steal pots preflop, since most (80%+) of the raises are either called or reraised.
And, as a wise man once said, you actually need a better hand to push than to call with...

Isn't that the other way around?

I haven't played enough to provide a decent sample size, but in about a dozen of these, I've moneyed in half of them and made FT twice.

In any case, what I like is that you can finish this up in about 1 1/2 hour vs the 4 hours a regular 180 takes.

Obviously sustainable......

They're great $/hr, you "true" ROI won't be as high as a normal tournament, but because people make such large mistakes late I'd argue that your $/hr in these can be higher than a 15 minute blind tournament of the same buy-in if you know what you're doing. Just be prepared for pretty large swings because variance in 50% ROI land can be severe.

Haven't cashed since.

The variance is huge in those tourneys.

I stick to the 18 and 45 player turbos.

make sure your rolled properly if you want to do these (I recommend $1800+)
