raise the turn for a free showdown.

I disagree with raise the turn for a "free" showdown... Villain bets $20 on the turn, standard raise would be to $60 (costing you $40... the same amount the villain bets on the river)...

Also, if the villain is bluffing, then he will fold rather than induce the extra bluff. If he really does have a good hand and shoves you miss your chance to hit a 2 outer.

Also for the record, I would fold your cowboys, I think you're beat unless you have evidence of this guy multi barreling.

Not saying I agree in raising the turn, but your logic doesnt hold up, since a "standard" bet on the river is not 40$. What if he bets 65$?(Which is more probable) Then raising the turn will yield profit, since 60$<(20+65).

I probably play it the same though, since he's giving me good odds on turn and river(and calling river obv).

why not bet the flop?? If he checks I will only call another small river bet.

as played I call river but it sucks

doesn't this scream ace low kicker or flush draw that hit-- looks like value town, we're not beating much of anything on the river-- i know we are getting odds but i don't understand a call-- i would a ) either raise the turn for a free showdown as he may not have trip aces or b ) fold turn

I don't know. Do you really think villain is on a stone bluff 1/3 of the time?
