Another friend...

Again at my local card club yesterday. I was pretty card-dead yesterday and my KK and JJ played itself, so the only interesting hand I already laid out. Buut... I had this woman to my left. She's an ok player, but she never knows where she stands (can't put an opponent on a hand). So she sometimes becomes a calling station.

Anyway, we were debating the following hand...
Woman is button and has Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
Something like 3 limpers, she limps (just accept this, sorry), SB calls, BB calls.

Flop (6SB, 6players): 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
Check to some guy in MP, who bets, in total 2 other people call including her.

I tell her afterwards that I would have raised here all day, she gets upset with me...

Rest of story (in white)
<font color="white">
Turn (4.5BB, 3 players): Ad
MP bet, call, call

River (7.5BB, 3 players): Qd
MP bet, fold, friend calls.

MP has Ah Jh (a pair of Aces)
friend has Qh 5h (two pair, queens and fives)
and wins 9.5BB pot.

PF limping Q5 on the button is close in a LP live game. Flop is a raise, perhaps buying a queen out and getting value out of the FD.

Button limp with Q5s isn't horrible with three limpers in front. Raising the flop is pretty good unless she's the first one to call after the bettor (positions were unclear). Implied odds are a consideration here as pumping a small edge isn't as good as pumping a big one.

also gotta remember that live players generally freeze on flush cards and she probably isnt getting paid 2 bets on any street if she does hit (unless she is losing).... so may as well pump equity now

let me guess, she is being results oriented because the villian hand the nutflush draw this time and she would have lost alot if she raised and hit a flush....

did you tell her WHY you would raise? did she tell you WHY she doesnt want to raise?.....oh wait, scrap that..."i wouldnt go telling people that."

good advice.

Is she willing to learn about things like equity or does she "already know how to play"?

Raising in this spot makes perfect sense.

However, I don't understand why would we want to do it to buy a queen out? KQ isn't folding, Q8 must be rare.
