Playing the button
Does anyone take the approach of either raising or folding when on the button on a limped pot as opposed to just calling? I'm aware that every instance is situational, but I've heard of that as being a rule of thumb. That applies to tournament play - is there a different approach in a ring game?

Re: Playing the button
As always , there are exceptions to every rule . The general consensus is that you should raise when you're first to act which is often right . Of course , there are situations where it may be correct to limp otb ; if your intention is to re-raise the raiser . For instance , if you're playing against players who frequently punish limpers with a wide range of hands , then it may be more profitable to limp re-raise .This is certainly true against players who would have folded to your button raise a large percentage of the time anyway .
So limping may be fine if : a) You're playing against players who suffer from the limp-raise syndrome behind you . b) To create what will certainly be a multi-way pot with speculative hands . |
Re: Playing the button
I think this might be something that should be dependent on where your playing, and your style of play.
