Where are we heading?

The tone between Russia and the US has been very fierce lately. Russia is poring money into their military. The top countries are maintaining and developing their nuclear devises. If i remember correctly, these countries agreed to decrease the number of warheads. Instead, we are seeing the opposite.
Are we going to face another power battle in the near future between these two countries and perhaps even china?
Putin openly, a few months ago, shared his opinions about the American double standard. His opinions where very critical which itself it amusing seeing where that opinion is coming from.
What country is the biggest threat towards world peace today? How much longer is US going to maintain their position as world police?

Re: Where are we heading?

IMO, we're extremely unlikely to see any resurgence of Cold War-level antagonisms. My somewhat uninformed understanding is that most Russian jingoism is intended to bolster domestic support for the regime. Russia's real foreign policy goals have more to do with bullying ex-Soviet Union nations than with actually confronting the West.

Could you post a linky about the nuclear buildup in each country and how that is violating current treaties?

I was asking about nuclear weapons and nuclear weapons treaty violations. Oh well.

I think Russia has a fairly clean agenda at the moment.
There is enough crime coming from Russian, and they create military tension that is felt, but they're a good counter power, they're not crazy and they are trying to bring the country up economically. I don't think Russia is a threat to the world ... they have too many problems at the home front (I'm Russian) But it doesn't hurt for other countries to have major weapons in this world before one of them loses all fear and shame ... Russia is the main military counterpart to the US right now and it's good that they exist.

The defense budget of the U.S. almost equals that of the rest of the world. That does not include the cost of the Iraq War.

If I was born and raised in Switzerland, I know where I'd be pointing the finger....same place I'm pointing the finger now.
