Giving Away Items From Your Home

Any of you ever given anything away out of your homes? Im trying to move this massive 47" Projection TV for free, but im not sure if offering it for free is the right move. Im sure im being a paranoid moron, but i live in an APPT complex, i figure ill just put up a sign in the laundry room and have another tenent take it. Should i be wary of letting a stranger come into my house to move the TV out? I got like 2 computers, 2 HDTVS, all 3 major systems and a ton of DVDs. Its either this or just bring it out by the garbage which is kind of wasteful. Its either this or craiglist, i figured its more likely someone within 100 feet would want it then anyone else.

Thoughts?

i would be wary but im paranoid and watch too much tv. can you place it on the curb with a "for free in working condition" sign? i wouldnt want strangers scoping out my belongings esp when you have so much electronics.
