LAPC final table observations/gripes
 

Why must the WPT continue to have these all in fests for TV? Does a pro really have any edge when everyones M is under 10? I would feel sick if I knew I played great poker for 5 days and then it just came down to pure luck. We are talking about millions of dollars in prize money difference in what is a complete luck fest. Looking at the hand updates I highly doubt this will make for entertaining TV either. I would like to watch some actual poker where people have enough chips to make some moves, etc. I feel bad for JC Tran who clearly dominated the whole event and then couldn't catch enough cards to win in the end. Im sure these sorts of rants have been posted in the past, but what kind of edge would any pro have against average players in this final table situation?

You are a good poker player. They're trying to attract the donks we make our money from, who just want to watch AK vs. QQ for a billion chips. It also costs them a lot to shoot the tournaments, and so they want to keep the shootings as short as possible.

They are bascally SNGs, a good player obviously has an edge no matter waht them Ms are (barring < 2 or something obv). The edge is lessened, but that is what you accept when you play a WPT... you play 4 days to set yourself up in good position for shortsack play. If the players think that this is enough of a problem to make it not work their time, then they shouldn't play.

WPT is a company that offers a product. There is still an edge, it is just lessened... No need to complain.

In my opinion, that's not what the donks want to watch at all. We can get into that more in depth if you like.

It was a cost-cutting measure by WPTE. I don't think any executive there could tell you with a straight face that the turbo blind structure is an attempt at producing a better product, or a more newbie-oriented product. They just are a struggling company; even in 2003 they were. It's just too bad they have so many of these casinos handcuffed, and this is what we are left with. Many of the most prestigious poker tournaments in the world with final tables that are considered to be a joke by everyone.

How much does it cost to shoot a final table? any estimates?
what are all the things that they have to pay for?

Surely, it's mainly the staff and camera crew?

I think the WPTE pay them for a set number of hours and they have to pay 'substantially' extra if they go over.

I highly doubt the blind format has ANYTHING to do with the price of taping the final table.

What I don't understand is how the WPT acts like it costs a fortune to film 6 hours of a final table, yet ESPN has hours and hours of USPC and WSOP coverage and sometimes multiple tables.
