First hand semibluff

First hand of an online $300 MTT with 70 entries and 10 prizes.

Stacks: 3000

10/20, 10 players

Preflop: Hero is Button with J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
7 folds, Hero raises to 55, SB folds, BB calls

Flop: T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (120, 2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets 80, BB raises to 240, Hero raises to 850 planning to call a shove.

I hate it.

If he's shoving you have 8 outs and a re-draw to deal w/

I'd call his c/r and go from there

I hate this also. If he shoves and you call and subsequently lose you will put it down to 'LAG play to either win or go out quickly'. I don't think it is a reasoned play which fits with his range (which you of course don't know).

I don't even mind folding as calling means you're probably facing a psb on the turn which makes you fold. I call though and re-evaluate a hopefully cheap turn bet.

I'm with AS here, calling a 5-bet is pure spew.

Even as 2+2's resident Donk, I'd have to disagree with the move.

he folded.

ok, the move was prolly not a good idea then. my reasoning was that I took a chance to double or bust early (not taking this approach normally) with a high-risk play + that he will often have a hard time continue without JJ+ after my flop 3-bet.

I would fold preflop.

To the flop raise, I don't mind a smaller reraise and fold to a 4-bet. Flat calling is also fine. I wouldn't fold to the raise.
