Since i for some reason cant edit my own post, here goes.

Brag: British open 18th hole, Van de Velde leads by 3 shots, he is in the last 2 ball of the day.

Beat: 3 shots not enough

Variance: He looses following playoff
Variance: His playing partner who had struggled alot makes birdie
Varinace: The woman laughing at him, is his wife.

For us who are new to golf - could someone also post the stories behind the photos? I'd be interested to hear them.

The one I posted is Tom Watson chipping in from behind the 17th green at Pebble Beach to take the lead in the 1982 US Open.

That wiki link was a good read. I didn't realize how many shots and putts Watson pulled completely out of his ass in order to win that day. I do remember watching it though, and was definitely pulling for Jack to win - nothing against Tom - so the chip-in on 17 was a bit of a dagger. I remember the SI cover that week: "Jack won in '62 and '72, can he win in '82?" Damn near.

I don't feel too bad though about Tom winning per the reference of it being his only US Open victory. Another thing about that article, for some reason I had no idea at all that they played the PGA there in 1977.

Well, it is for the Europeans. That's why they keep beating our (American) asses every year.

Oh yes cause noone remember the famous Just"in" Leonard long put holed at Brookline, and the american players went mad in a wild scene, left Jose Marie Olazabal with a difficult put with 12+ overweight americans already partied at his puttingline.

Great stuff
