One song to describe your life to this point

My cousin asked me this question today, I thought it was pretty profound, considering he is in a wheel chair because of a motorcycle accident that gave him substantial brain damage.

Anyway, I realized I had a real hard time answering this. Sure, ive listened to plenty of music over the course of my life, but what one song could best describe it up to this point in time.

At the time the best answer I could come up with is No Rain- Blind Melon, partially cause its a hard questions and partially cause I wanted to pick a song he knew.

Anyway, what say you ElDF? What one song do you think best describes/represents your life to this point?

Dumb Things - Paul Kelly

Welcome, strangers, to the show
I'm the one who should be lying low
Saw the knives out, turned my back
Heard the train coming, stayed out on the track
In the middle, in the middle, in the middle of a dream
I lost my shirt, I pawned my rings
I've done all the dumb things

Caught the fever, heard the tune
Thought I loved her, hung my heart on the moon
Started howling, made no sense
Thought my friends would rush to my defence
In the middle, in the middle, in the middle of a dream
I lost my shirt, I pawned my rings
I've done all the dumb things

And I get all your good advice
It doesn't stop me from going through these things twice
I see the knives out, I turn my back
I hear the train coming, I stay right on that track
In the middle, in the middle, in the middle of a dream
I lost my shirt, I pawned my rings
I've done all the dumb things
I melted wax to fix my wings
I've done all the dumb things
I threw my hat into the ring
I've done all the dumb things
I thought that I just had to sing
I've done all the dumb things

Townes Van Zandt's "Waiting Around to Die"

"Sometimes I don't know where this dirty road is taking me
Sometimes I can't even see the reason why
I guess I keep on gamblin', lots of booze and lots of ramblin'
It's easier than just a-waitin' 'round to die

One-time friends I had a ma, I even had a pa
He beat her with a belt once cause she cried
She told him to take care of me, she headed down to Tennessee
It's easier than just a-waitin' 'round to die

I came of age and found a girl in a Tuscaloosa bar
She cleaned me out and hit it on the sly
I tried to kill the pain, I bought some wine and hopped a train
Seemed easier than just a-waitin' 'round to die

A friend said he knew where some easy money was
We robbed a man and brother did we fly
The posse caught up with me, drug me back to Muskogee
It's two long years, just a-waitin' 'round to die

Now I'm out of prison, I got me a friend at last
He don't steal or cheat or drink or lie
His name's codeine, he's the nicest thing I've seen
Together we're gonna wait around and die"

"Ghost World" - Aimee Mann

Finals blew, I barely knew
My graduation speech
And with college out of reach
If I cant find a job its down to dad
And myrtle beach

So, Im bailing this town-or
Tearing it down-or
Probably more like
Hanging around,
Hanging around

Everyone I know is acting weird
Or way too cool
They hang out by the pool
So I just read a lot and ride my bike
Around the school

cause Im bailing this town-or
Tearing it down-or
Probably more like
Hanging around,
Hanging around

And all that I need now
Is someone with the brains
And the know-how
To tell me what I want...
Anyhow

12th of june, a gibbous moon
Was this the longest day?
Ill walk down to the bay
And jump off of the dock and watch
The summer waste away

Then, Im bailing this town-or
Tearing it down-or
Probably more like
Hanging around
Hanging around
Just hanging around

So tell me what I want

Look at Me - John Lennon

Look at me
What am I supposed to be?
What am I supposed to be?
Look at me
What am I supposed to be?
What am I supposed to be?
Look at me
Oh my love
Oh my love

Here I am
What am I supposed to do?
What am I supposed to do?
Here I am
What can I do for you?
What can I do for you?
Here I am
Oh my love
Oh my love
Look at me, oh please look at me, my love
Here I am - oh my love

Who am I?
Nobody knows but me
Nobody knows but me
Who am I?
Nobody else can see
Just you and me
Who are we?
Oh my love
Oh my love

Too Late to Die Young - Dan Bern

The day the Elvis died
Was like a mercy killing
America breathed
A sigh of relief
We knew all about the drugs
And the Vegas shows
And there wasn't much of anything
That looked like grief

And I guess he shoulda done
Like James Dean did
'Stead of putting on weight
And sinking down, down, down
Easier to take
If he had just skidded straight
To souvenir city
And T-shirt town

And sometimes I wish
I was smarter that I am
But I'm on my 3rd city
And I'm on my 4th car
And I'm on my 5th apartment
And so many of my days have sprung

And now it's too late to crash
Too late to burn
Too late to die young

If Pete Rose had exploded
Like Roberto Clemente
He'd be hanging in the Hall of Fame
Without fail
Can you name the last good film
Marlon Brando made
While trying to keep his kid
From going to jail
And the old people
On the street are telling you
Don't become like me
But everyday you creep a little bit closer

And I guess we shoulda done like James Dean did ...

A Lap Dance Is So Much Better When the Stripper is Crying

Well, faster than you can say, "shallow grave",
this pretty little thing come up to me and starts kneadin' my balls
like hard-boiled eggs in a tube sock.
Said her name was Bambi and I said, "Well that's a coincidence darlin',
'cause I was just thinkin' about skinnin' you like a deer."
Well she smiled, had about as much teeth as a Jack-O-Lantern,
and I went on to tell her how I would wear her face like a mask
as I do my little kooky dance.
And then she told me to shush.
I guess she could sense my desperation.
'Course, it's hard to hide a hard-on when you're dressed like Minnie Pearl.

Re: One song to describe your life to this point

My first thought was "My Way" but upon further reflection I would choose "That's Life" since it illustrates the feast-or-famine character of my life so far and emphasizes fighting through adversity. Both are well-known Sinatra tunes, but I'm too lazy to look up the songwriters right now.

When I change the world maybe they'll notice me
