Direct TV

Anyone ever try to install this in an apartment complex with trees all over the place? An apartment that I might get has a lot of trees in the way... and I am not sure about how badly this could potentially affect the signal.

Any ideas?

Trees are a problem if they are line of site to the satellites. What part of the country do you live? The satellite is located due south of Texas (and up, of course). If you want HD, you need the dish that points to multiple satellite orbital slots, which will make finding a clear line of site more difficult.

Near Tampa, FL (about 20 miles away)

This is the problem with looking at apartment complexes with limited space.

I had DirecTV come out to my apartment a couple weeks ago, and they refunded my $8 when they couldn't find a line of sight. It can't hurt to just bring them out there unless they end up setting it up with a [censored] signal.

Edit: Didn't see you said you haven't gotten the apartment yet.

Also note if it is a little dish or a bigger dish. If you want HD then you need to reference a bigger dish. Then determine which way it is pointing. See if you can see the sky in that direction from anyplace on the apartments roof.
