I don't see the big deal with avatars. They actually help with reads in cases where I forget to take notes. When you're playing 9 tables and you don't always remember everyone, sometimes it helps to look and see an avatar and say "oh yeah, the guy with the baby keeps 3betting me light." Ideally, you have a note about it or you just remember it, but it doesn't hurt to have some extra memory cues imo.

well, it's very distracting and also helps (hurts) to establish psychological problems like "omg that [censored] with that [censored] baby avatar keeps [censored] 3 betting" when in reality they may have just picked up hands

Whenever i'm on stars to rail someone the software drives me insane. The avatars are bad, but even worse is the tourny popups. I know you can turn it all off, but im lazy and stuff.

As for full tilt, I have them off. But I make sure to use the fishy one so everyone knows.

I just find them plain distracting. I want to be fully concentrated on the game and not look at goody avas.

edit: my avatar is btw pitch-black

Do people really play with PS/FT avatars?

I don't believe it.

I don't even have a poker table displayed when I play on FT.

All black baby.

Are most of you guys playing NL50 on stars making platinum star? I've got like 800 vpps left to get by the end of this month so I should easily make it but I think I'm playing too much.

I'm 500VPP away from plat star playing 50NL but i usually 9table so its about 40k hands and 50 hours per month...

I see no reason to mod FTP. Just use racetrack, no avatars, the marble background, and a 4 color deck.

i've got a lot of [censored] to do for uni tom but i get so bored and start reading here, is there something to do while working. Are there any good internet radio stations that anyone listens to, i just want to listen to something apart from the songs i listen to over and over when i'm playing poker. I guess there are no big sporting events on tonight to keep me company. I am looking forward to Saturday morning, first test between england and sri lanka. should be a good series- that is cricket for all you who don't know. Any ideas to keep me from falling asleep etc tonight?

that kinda does look like you are bleeding chips in non-showdown pots. (Ie. suggests that you may be wasting youre time)

Dont give up though, refocus, post a couple of hands and then go back fishing.

More room for the unprecedented (and un-necessary) amount of HUD stats I use. The color-coding I use on VPIP/PFR/AF is usually enough for me to know if someone is a maniac or not.

He's got a good point there. The more hands, the more reading you do - generally the better you are going to get. GL

Nope stars....I made a buy in and stopped for now. Playing 5nl I might as well be playing with play chips the beats I have taken at that level today. I am going to play no more than 4 tables at 10nl until I get back to $200 then will start to include more tables.

i've been down this road many times in the past, because i suck and had bad BR management. first thing you have to mentally adjust to is that your BR is what it is. it's not what it was. it's not what it can be. it is what it is. so you have to play the stakes that your BR allows (unless you can reload) and not be obsessed with getting your winnings back. there's no rush; it's not like you have to put a down payment on a house tomorrow.

Re: ***uNL Microbrew Thread*** NOV 2007 (ot)

I started out hot at stars, quickly movin up through nl2/nl5. I ran great my first 8k hands of nl10. The last 7k hands have been break-even. They have been filled with bad beats, and a couple tilt/spew episodes.

The most recent tilt episode, of which I am trying to rid myself, has taken me down 5 BI's in ~1,400 hands. Occasionally I am my own worst villain.

Well I am going to ride out 10nl till I am rolled for it or busto. I can reload later if I want. I just cant take playing 5nl. Go look at my BBV post for today if you don't believe how sick it is over there. I have beat 10nl before, I am just goign to cut way down play 2 tables and really think about each play as I am doing it. It might help me with my leaks at higher levels.

Yes - the bottom line of the graph is the net EV run difference between the other 2 lines (I think). That will be an option in the new PokerEV version to be released.
