Curling with Math

For anyone interested, I have a blog at http://www.curlingzone.com/curlwithmath

Purpose is to analyse curling situations based on available statistics to determine the correct decision.

I am interested in getting some help with determining how large our sample size needs to be in order to verify the accuracy of our findings. Essentially, if a team is tied with one end to play, our stats show a 75.7% chance of winning. This is based on outcomes from say, 2200 situations. If anyone is intereted in helping us, please post or send me a PM.

Thanks.

Hahaha curling seems like a really interesting game after reading this. Actually it was one of the only watchable sports in the winter olympics. Canadians have it great to see this stuff on tv. Of course Canada>US anyway.

Actually, I met a big ol' boy from Houston recently who said he gets curling on television (somehow) and enjoys watching it.

People do crazy [censored] on that stuff, one time a guy on meth stole a tank from the armory out here and went cruising up the 163. They shot him dead, really sad.

(sorry, I checked out yr site, it looks very interesting, didn't know curling was all that)

Is there a Joe Morgan of curling who tells people that you can't calculate for heart and desire?

From what I gather, its really all about consistency.

I absolutely LOVED the curling on TV during the Winter Olympics and watched it almost every chance I could.
Really interesting sport with some really interesting situations and I think the olympics had some particularly interesting matches.

The announcers really helped too. Their passion and interest in the sport and situations translated really well on TV and they did a nice job of educating about the sport without being condescending.

Seriously, I couldn't get enough of this stuff during the winter olympics.
Prior to that I had pretty much zero interest in curling and had no idea I would end up finding it so entertaining so kudos to their coverage and announcing.

I have large numbers of friends who have literally zero interest in sports. They tolerate me watching a game as long as I keep the volume off. The only time I've ever gotten them to actually watch sports with me and genuinely care was when the curling world championships were on. Somehow we all had a ton of fun watching that. It really is an interesting game.

Ditto. I was almost depressed when I realized that I wouldn't be able to watch curling for another 4 years.
