Travel forum....?

I know this has been brought up before... but a travel forum with a suitably detailed master sticky would be a really useful thing to have. I'm in the process of planning/reserving a 2-week trip from Barcelona -> Paris -> Berlin -> Vienna -> Marseille -> Barcelona (tentatively) and while some things (eg cheap plane tickets, hotels, etc) are readily available via Google, etc some things are more obscure. Judging by EDF/OOT/etc it seems like there are a bunch of people on 2+2 who travel / have traveled with some regularity... it might be nice to amass some information (eg, generally what is the cheapest way to get around in france, germany, japan, russia, wherever) and also provide a place for all of those "going to X, what should I do lolz!?!?!" posts to go.

Just a thought!

They said a travel forum would come when they update the software to vbulletin which will come in 2-3 minutes/hours/days/weeks/months/years.

Re: Travel forum....?

i would rather see a fantasy sports forum

when we had a travel forum before, what happened was,

nobody posted in the travel forum
people posted (or reposted) their questions in OOT
i moved them to the travel forum
i had to listen to bitching / answer PMs about why those threads couldn't stay in OOT, because nobody was posting in the travel forum.

and i have actually pushed hard for this forum in the past, but i kinda have a feeling it won't do very well.

NT - I thought that it was up for only 3 days and it didn't even appear on the green sidebar in that time?
If this is correct then it's pretty reasonable to think that is why it didn't get any traffic.

I don't know how successful a full-fledged travel-forum (on green sidebar and being allowed more than 3 days) will do but it might have a chance if it is given just a little bit of time to grow and develop.

People can't post and participate there when they don't even know it exists.

Re: Travel forum....?

I'd mod it, if they want to start it.

I really just want my name in green for no reason. I do spend all my time on 2+2 though. I'm qualified in some abstract sense.

Other yet-to-be-created forums I could effectively mod:

Laziness forum (how to / DIY)
Mooching forum (how to / DIY)
Frozen foods forum
Porn forum
BBV4T (Beats, Brags and Variance for Temporary)

Re: Travel forum....?

microbob,

it was also a mod's playground IIRC. or else i just ended up moving a bunch of threads during that 3 days and was in a pissy mood.

mbillie,

it is my goal to prevent as many promising posters from becoming mods as possible. this includes basically anyone who nominates themself as a mod. sorry.

With poker pretty much spreading to all over the globe, a travel forum would be one of the most informative forums on 2+2 imo.A place for trip reports, both poker and the visit.
Also 2+2ers live pretty much everywhere but the usual forums where people ask about travelling may not reach everyone.A travel forum would be ideal for the 2+2 poker traveller wether for poker or sightseeing.

Re: Travel forum....?

dude the forum was up for a few days and got a lot of traffic considering that it wasn't even on the sidebar. i'd love to see a travel forum, especially now that the "2p2 communities" are split between four different places, where there's not a ton of user overlap. (in other words a good travel thread in the ElD forum is likely to be overlooked by someone who mostly reads oot or bbv4lyfezomg).

Re: Travel forum....?

I don't think the travel forum would necessarily be high-volume, but it would serve as an excellent resource for people interested in visiting a particular place. I had no idea the forum existed during those three days and this is obviously something I'd be interested in since I'm traveling and supporting myself by playing poker.
