World Baseball Classic broadcast query

As I type this, the US is playing Korea. I believe the game started at 10:00pm EST.

ESPN decided to televise Venezuela versus Puerto Rico.

Why?

I think ESPN had a hard time scheduling these because it was not going to be clear who was playing who at what time. My program guide says they are replaying the game at 1:00 am on ESPN2. They have a listing of when the games will be on at the wbc website.

Hmm...didn't change it here. I have tennis on ESPN2 (Atlanta). Guess it's GameCast on the web for me.

I would think that the day or two notice they had, especially when nothing else is on, would be sufficient.

I think they're just commies at ESPN.

I really should be going to sleep, anyway.

more importantly, the US is looking awful

i think they have a wager w/ the Olympic Bball team to see who can be worse.

I have so many tickets to the semis and finals and if the U.S. doesn't get in I don't know how I will sell them. I would then have to pull for Mexico to make the semis and probably won't be able to sell them all. I guess my way of betting on the U.S. was buying these tickets.

good luck, dude. the way they're playing, it doesn't look good. then again, the tourney seems to be more popular than people expected, so maybe you'll be able to move them...

Maybe I will be able to. I am in San Diego which has a large population of Mexican-Americans. I just don't know how much they care about Mexico making it to the semis. I was really pulling for a US/Cuba matchup. I think that would offer the most value for my tickets. Next being US/DOM. But, maybe Mexico will win against Japan and the US will have its destiny in their own hands and I won't have to worry about it.

Re: World Baseball Classic broadcast query

The problem with the WBC is that it's not really a true test of which team is the best. Baseball is a sport where any team can win on any given day (provided the difference in skill level between teams isn't TOO huge). It's much more likely for the worst team in a league to beat the best team in baseball than it is in the other major sports. When one loss can eliminate a team from the Classic, that's not right.

Plus, let's be honest - this is not the best team the US could've put together. I'm a big baseball fan and I barely know who a couple of the guys are. It's still a good team, obviously, but there are a few guys who have only had one good season.
