Vegas 1/2 and 2/5 from 6/27 to 7/3. Was it tough?
 

I just got back from Vegas and had a realization on Sunday. I was trying to figure out why I was winning so much in games that were definitely tougher than casino games here in LA(the state of). I finally realized I was running supernova hot. I cooled off the next three days and got a variety of cold cards, bad beats, yada yada and was just wondering if the 1/2, 1/3, 2/5 competition was tougher than normal? I definitely know I've never been stuck in so many games with so few ATMs.

I'm glad I'm not crazy! I was sitting at numerous tables where a horrific 2-out beat was delivered. The loser just tapped the table and said "Nice hand!" I've never seen as many out-of-towners who knew not to tap the aquarium. The local nits were not in great abundance. If I would of busted out a "Wassup, bro!" I think I would have gotten 8 answers on a 9 handed table a couple of times. I heard multiple discussions about TT's thread on the NYC busts that I don't imagine your normal Vegas donkey knows about.

I was there from 7/1-7/5 with a friend who is a solid player. He played the 1/2 at MGM the first night and while he had a few fish at the table, it seemed like there were alot of people who knew what they were doing.

The next night we were wandering through the Excalibur and he decided to try the 1/3NL 200 max buy in. That place was a lot fishier. Definitely a lot fishier there. The night of the 4th the place was just insane. I watched my friend for awhile, and in a 30 min stretch 3 guys rebought back in for 200 and one guy rebought twice. This table was like an ATM. When I left him he was up like 300, but when I saw him back at the room at 4am, he was only up $40.

It seemed like most of the players at the Ex were just the avg Joe who were staying there. Also didn't seem to be as many sharks preying on the tourists playing there.

This is true, but the Ex suffers from the $200 max buy-in from a winner's perspective. Low buy-ins may keep the fish in longer, but you want a huge mistake to be $500 vs. $200. I played several sessions at the Ex, and it was very good, but it was overrun with short buys. You just can't make the kind of implied odds plays you'd like to there. Many times the shortstacks just handcuff you so badly you're cut down to their level. My biggest problem over the week was making plays on a big stack limper and then finding myself in it with a shortie. Obviously I wasn't evaluating the game well, but it's easier when a new guy buys/rebuys max versus having a couple of $400 stacks mixed with 7 $50s.

Just frustrating that I couldn't whip out the "skillz that killz" or that the corpse would be me.

Maybe I should have tried the "second tier" places. I spent most of my time at the Rio, Venetian, and Wynn. I played for a little while at PH too, 1/2 was so-so. They had a great 4-8 limit game with a weird 1-2 blind setup, but I only saw it running once.

I played the 2/5NL game at Paris on Saturday night (6/30). It was soft as a baby's bottom.

I was there from 6/21 to 7/1 and played 2/5 at the Rio and Bellagio every day. It was definitely soft. Run over the nits and value bet the calling stations. You don't need drunk idiots at the table to make money in these games. Just play aggressive solid poker.
