NBA 2007-08 Week 1 Thread (10/30 - 11/5)
Not sure how the NBA threads are usually done here, but I figured I'd go ahead and make one for the first week of the season.
Plays for Tuesday 10/30 Golden State -3.5 vs. Utah, risking 1.1u to win 1u I rate the Warriors as slightly better than the Jazz in a neutral setting at this point in the season. Golden State also had by far the largest home/road differential (18 games!) in the regular season last year. The Jazz don't match up well here, they will be forced to play GS's style of game and they won't be able to keep up with them. I'm a huge Spurs fan but don't like picking them to cover large spreads, so no play vs. Portland. LAL/HOU line has been moving strongly, presumably due to the latest Kobe drama. If it keeps moving to +5.5 or +6, it's a good pick for the Lakers at home. |
Re: NBA 2007-08 Week 1 Thread (10/30 - 11/5)
could the Jazz keep up with them in the playoffs a few months ago?
|
Re: NBA 2007-08 Week 1 Thread (10/30 - 11/5)
Obviously they did, but one of the biggest disappointments for me was that GS wasn't up 3-0 to open the series. IIRC, they led in the final minute of games 1 and 2, one game by a sizeable margin.

Re: NBA 2007-08 Week 1 Thread (10/30 - 11/5)
Tuesday, October 30:
San Antonio -13.5 Brandon Roy and Darius Miles will be out for Portland. My number says SA by 22. Golden State -3.5 This one should be close and GS is good at home. Injuries: Stephen Jackson (GS), Matt Harpring (Utah). |

Do you happen to know of a place that has historical quarter lines for the NBA? Want to try something out this year

This article would suggest he'll be playing, but this would be a quick play if it turns out he won't be playing. Any news appreciated. |

Re: NBA 2007-08 Week 1 Thread (10/30 - 11/5)
LAL +5.5- I don't think Kobe will let the drama effect him. This line is off by 3 points in my opinion.
YTD 0-0 +/- 0.00 |
Re: NBA 2007-08 Week 1 Thread (10/30 - 11/5)
New to this site so definately don't use my opinion, but after reading a few sites and what not and seeing lines, I took lakers +5.5 Jazz outright, and the jazz/GS under at 214.5 That seems way high to me.

I forgot GS let go of Jason Richardson. I'll pass on this game. Re: Brandon Roy http://www.covers.com/pageLoader/pag...summary_1.html He hurt his left heel during the team's first practice on the same heel that kept him out of 20 games last season. An MRI showed no major problems. |
Re: NBA 2007-08 Week 1 Thread (10/30 - 11/5)
YTD: 0-0, +/- 0.00
Spurs/Blazers under 190, 1.1u to win 1 Utah +2.5, 1.1u to win 1 Warriors/Jazz under 214 1.15u to win 1 I think Blazers don't have enough firepower against the Spurs defense, especially opening night, to break 90. Should be a low tempo game, I think a more realistic O/U number is probably 184'ish. Stephan Jackson is out via suspension for the Warriors, and Monta Ellis is day to day. No key injuries for Utah, I think they cover here and the game goes under. |
Re: NBA 2007-08 Week 1 Thread (10/30 - 11/5)
blazers +13.5
lakers +5.5 lakers ML warriors -3.5 |

Re: NBA 2007-08 Week 1 Thread (10/30 - 11/5)
Jarrett Jack will start at point guard tonight, McMillan said, rounding out a starting lineup that also has Roy at shooting guard, Webster at small forward, Aldridge at power forward and Przybilla at center. McMillan said the second unit will include Steve Blake at point guard, Outlaw primarily at power forward, with some action at small forward, and Channing Frye, who will play center and power forward. James Jones will be the small forward on the second unit. The reserve shooting guard will be a rotation among Roy, Blake and Jack. . . . McMillan said he plans to start the game by not double-teaming Spurs star Tim Duncan. Przybilla will get the first crack at Duncan, McMillan said. . . . The Blazers exercised options that extended the contracts of Aldridge, Roy, Webster, Frye, Jack and Sergio Rodriguez by a year. The extensions keep the six players under contract through the 2008-09 season.

Re: NBA 2007-08 Week 1 Thread (10/30 - 11/5)
I had already jumped all over Under 189 and Blazers under 88.5 based on last years numbers, but the announcers have been discussing the Blazers' new uptempo strategy:
Blazers plan to run, gun, shoot to average 100 points per game I guess that explains the jump in the line from 186 to 191. |

I have been pleasantly suprised by how this team has played. They are young but they are gonna be good little team. SA seems to be rotating a lot of players tonight, I was suprised to see Darius Washington getting as much time as he did at the point. |

Washington was pretty solid in the time he has played so far. He's a little rough around the edges and maybe a little to aggressive for the SA style but he's a newbie. |
