Results Oriented: The Struggle

Cliff notes at bottom

Okay, so at the moment I'm on a 5 BI downswong (noes!) after being on a nice heater for a bit, and its like crushing my morale (or was).

I'm not sure why but I go on crazy tilt (not so much bad play as complete loss of confidence) and feel like Im no longer a winning player. Does anyone go through this during a medium-biggish downswong?

I got over it after talking to people on aim and realize.. relax its 5 BI, but I'm still beating myself up over it really bad, and it seems like a ridiculous waste, which leads me to the purpose of this post;

What can us [results orientated players] do to focus more on the way we play hands and making the best decisions at any given time, than the money won or loss?

The one "solution" I've come up with is focusing on something else; girls, school, buying cool [censored], video games, etc. Also part of this coping is discussing hands but more discussing your mental state with friends to get an unbiased external opinion from some player that either knows you or knows what its like to play say 400 NL and lose 2k and just wake up and know that tomorrow is a new day.

But this seems like a watered down solution, is there a better way to ween myself off of being results oriented? Its very frustrating to beat myself up over losing 5 BI and complaining to friends etc every time it happens. What do you guys do?

Cliff notes:
1. I'm results oriented
2. It pisses me off
3. What do you guys do to just shake your losses and and just deal with variance?

Re: Results Oriented: The Struggle

I lost $2.8k in one day on Sunday (worst loss to date) but it didn't feel as bad as losing my first $1k all in one day felt. I used to get worked up and tilted about losing $50 at NL25. I think jfish has it right and you get used to it.

I try not to check my PT nor my balance, especially during play. I used to refresh my balance on Party every time I had free time between hands (seriously; lol).

I put some hands in this morning, probably ended up, but I don't even know how much because I didn't bother to check; closed PT and was done with poker for the day. So I'm trying not to gloat about wins so I don't get all worked up against losses.

Swongs are just one thing.

nah man the best feeling is when you're +5bi in a session and you feel like [censored] yeah for once i run good and play good, feels like ir eally got it finally

then you put in some more hands later that day and you run like [censored] death and nobody folds to your bluffs ever and you lose 7bi in 2x as many hands but you're only down 2bi right no big deal

fukkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk, can't wait to grind today

OP: is this a joke? do u call -5 buyins a downswing? lol

this is so standard, i often have +-10 buyin swings during one session. i can't understand how you would be upset losing 5 BIs

stop playing after tilted, stop denying tilt

or pay someone to monitor you and tell you when you tilt so you can quit

Re: Results Oriented: The Struggle

I thought about this alot today b/c skier is right 5 BI isnt really a swong but its the money.. Im not thinking about it enough in terms of BI. It actually didnt really hurt that much, i was just down on myself, I think the key is to really focus on the BI's and the hands rather than money lost/won

fwiw I had a small win today=D
